JEDDAH, 15 April 2006 — Fady Hamadah won the two-day first round of Mobily Saudi Star Autocross, which ended at Durrat Al-Arus racetrack on Thursday night. Thirty-three car racing enthusiasts pitted skills in a marathon battle as each tried to score the maximum under the new points system of scoring. When the dust settled it was Fady Hamadah in his Audi S3 who led the podium winners clocking the best time of one minute and 50 seconds in the Camry challenge stage on the second day.

“I struggled to win, but I loved every minute of it and will do it again,” Fady said of his well-deserved victory. Mansour Al-Qahtani, the favorite of the round, piloted his black Subaru Impress around the track in a second best time of 01:52:590

In third place was the desert rally champion Majed Al-Gamdi in his Subaru Impress STI who finished in 01:52:655. The event, organized by Abdullah Bakhashab Establishment for Motor Sport Development attracted a large number of fans and their families. “I was impressed with their driving,” said ace rally driver Abdullah Bakhashab whose company is always on the lookout for new guys with potential to excel in motor sport,” he said. In all 33 drivers took part in Mobily Saudi Star in Jeddah. The race was very interesting, especially among those who used the modified versions of cars.

In the first group (DS) of nine drivers Wesam Hasaneen won (01:59:463) to move to the second stage. Fady Tawelah and Mohammad Al-Zahrani gave the winner a tough time.

In the second group (AS) of three drivers, the competition was between Samer Al-Saied and Abdulrahman Saleh, but Samer won with 01:56:010.

In the third group (CS) of five participants Mansour pipped Maoujahed Hariri clocking 02:387.

In the fourth group (FS) of seven drivers, Eyad Al-Nagar registered a best time without any mistakes 01:56:152 to edge out Hussein Abdou who registered 02:01:662.

In the fifth group (BS), competition stayed between Abdulrahman Al-Heraki and Mohammad Al-Gamdi with the former winning 01:56:010.

In the sixth group (ES) Tarik Harasani clocked 02:09:269. While in the seventh group (SS), there was only one driver, Eyas Hamadh driving Audi RS 4 registering 01:57:857

In the last group (P), three drivers competed but Maed Al-Gamdi topped with 01:46:132.

In the last round of the second day, marked by the Toyota Camry challenge, all qualified drivers had two trial rounds. Outsmarting his rivals, Hamadah clinched the championship. It was a thrilling and interesting round where Mansour finished second and Majed Al-Gamdi third.

Results were calculated on the times the racers achieved on their own cars. Top drivers of each of the eight categories had to compete again using two Toyota Camries.

Hamadah, the flamboyant driver who blazed the tarmac with his skillful and stunt driving, won on the Camry by two seconds and fraction of a second from his rival Mansour.
