JEDDAH, 2 May 2006 — Green Team won the fourth Effat College women’s basketball championship beating the host team, 45-36, in the final. Seven teams entered the annual championship namely Effat College, Dar Al-Hekma, Al-Hamra School, Green Team, Dar Al-Tarbiyah School, Hadikat Al-Atfal School and Jazerat Al-Uloom School.
It was the second successive year Green Team and Effat College finished champions and runners-up.
Nour Baghdadi captained the winning team and her assistant was Nisreen Taib. Maisan Mamoun is the Effat team captain and Nihal Nassar her deputy.
The awards ceremony took place on Sunday at the Effat College basketball court. The first place trophy was presented to Green Team. Effat College won the Clean Play and Highest Scorer awards while Al-Hamra School received the Sportsmanship award.
Referees of throughout the championship were Green Team coach Amina Al-Nahdi, who is recognized from the International Basketball Federation FIBA, Maysoon Abdul Qadir, Effat College’s coach, who is recognized as a referee from the Emirates Basketball Federation, and Najla Al-Harthi, Jazerat Al-Uloom coach.
Effat College started the annual championship in 2003.
“We spread invitations to different private schools and colleges to participate in the championship that takes place in April of every year,” said Abdul Qadir, who is also Effat College’s sports assistant. This year’s event was sponsored by Al-Bahrawy Company. Among other sports activities, Effat College inaugurated the annual table tennis championship in November last year. The winner of this championship was Pakistani International School.
