RIYADH, 9 April 2007 — The Kingdom Equestrian Team won the King Abdullah Endurance Cup 2007. The event took place in Alras town in Qasim, north of Riyadh, this weekend.
Around 60 participants, including local and experienced riders from the GCC countries, took part in the race. The race was a trial over 120km.
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of the Kingdom Holding, said: “We are very proud of this achievement that came only a few weeks after our success in the Crown Prince Endurance Race. This demonstrates the strength of the team, and the reason for their continued success in local and international races.”
The King Abdullah Endurance Cup event is one of the most important championships in the endurance racing calendar. The race was supervised by the members of International Equestrian Federation along with Saudi and GCC officials.
Hassan Al-Dwaih, one of the Kingdom Equestrian Team members, showed grit in the tough race to place first. His performance was unique as he managed to complete the race in a record time.
Najeeb Al-Barjes, team manager and trainer said that he was proud of his team’s performance, stating that the team’s success was due to Prince Alwaleed’s continuous support.
The members of the Kingdom Team include Ms. Alia Alhwaete, Mohamed Al-Mihlisi, Ms. Noora Al-Yusuf, Abdulrahman Al-Hawas, Hassan Al-Dwaih and Ms. Latifa Alsheikh.
