TAIF, 13 April 2007 — A fire department here received an emergency call from a man claiming to be the principal of a local high school saying that his school was on fire and that many students had perished in the fire, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. A number of fire engines arrived at the school only to find the report to be false and that the person who had telephoned them was not the school principal. After investigating, it turned out that the caller was in fact a student, who was subsequently charged with being a nuisance and filing a false report.
Two-Month Salary Deduction for Assault
ABHA, 13 April 2007 — A court here ordered a two-month salary deduction for a government employee who was found guilty of assaulting a police officer, the daily Riyadh reported yesterday. The man, who worked at a health clinic, assaulted the policeman while being arrested for possession of drugs. In court, the man expressed remorse at what he had done. Feeling pity for him, the judge spared the man a jail sentence and instead ordered a two-month salary deduction and told the man to enroll himself into a rehab clinic.
Spurned Romeo Stabs Adversary
JEDDAH, 13 April 2007 — Sometimes love kills. This is what nearly happened to a man who had recently got engaged to a girl in Jeddah, the daily Okaz reported yesterday. Unknown to the man, his fiancée had an admirer who was furious that she had become engaged and was seeking revenge. When the man came to visit his bride-to-be, the spurned Romeo who was lurking in nearby bushes, took the opportunity to stab his adversary several times before fleeing on foot shouting expletives of how he was left heartbroken. The man survived the attack and suffered several non-life-threatening stabs to his legs and arms. Police are currently searching for the Romeo.
