MADINAH, 15 April 2007 — A fire broke out at a prison in Madinah around 8.30 p.m. on Friday leaving 10 people injured, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday. The civil defense was able to extinguish the fire quickly. The Saudi Red Crescent took the injured to a hospital in Madinah and investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire.
Drunkards Tell Police About Life of Crime
DAMMAM, 15 April 2007 — Police arrested two drunkards in the Ohud district of the city who amusingly told them about their life of crime and tried to convince them to release them if they directed them to a bootlegging factory close by. Police officers refused the men’s offer, but noted the location of the factory, which was soon raided. One of the drunken men also told police that he was a prolific car thief and that he would burgle homes with a gang of seven men, Al-Watan newspaper reported.
Two Die in Riyadh Floods, 105 Rescued
RIYADH, 15 April 2007 — Over 1,000 police officers, equipped with various search and rescue apparatus, assisted the Civil Defense in helping 105 people in 127 different accidents caused by severe floods over the weekend. The civil defense received around 10,000 emergency calls during the weekend. Two deaths were reported and one person has been reported missing.
Killer Turns Himself In After Three Years
JIZAN, 15 April 2007 — A man, who murdered his friend, admitted to the killing three years after the crime. Immediately after the murder the man, who was investigated by police, managed to evade charges by filing a harassment complaint against investigating officers. During that time, the man vehemently denied the crime saying he would never kill his friend. However, after three years the man admitted to the murder saying he felt guilty.
