AMMAN, 28 April 2007 — Asir Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, chairman of the Arab Thought Foundation, announced six prizes for innovative Arab contributions in areas of science, technology, arts, economic, media and society.
Each prize will be worth $50,000. The winners will also be awarded certificates of patent right over the innovation. The nominations for the prizes will be submitted to the foundation. A special committee will scrutinize the nominations and prepare a panel of three in each branch. These lists will be submitted to the judges’ committee who will choose the final winner in each branch.
Making this announcement in a press conference in Amman on Thursday, Prince Khaled said that the foundation planned to hold the award ceremony in Bahrain in the first week of December when the foundation’s next conference will be held.
On a question on the role of the foundation to solve the issues of poverty and unemployment in the Arab world the prince said: “The foundation’s role is to think up and put forward appropriate solutions for the problems faced by the Arab world. We have been striving to make the Arab intellectuals and responsible officials meet on the same plane. I believe we have succeeded in narrowing down the gap between the intellectuals and the authorities. This step will enable the thinkers put forward suitable solutions directly to the competent authorities.”
