JEDDAH, 18 April 2007 — The body of a 45-year-old Indonesian woman was found in a dumpster close to the Indonesian Consulate, police reported yesterday.
According to an initial police autopsy, the woman died as a result of natural causes. Municipal cleaners found the body wrapped in a piece of cloth.
Police said this is the third body found in similar circumstances this year.
The body of a 30-year-old Indonesian woman, thought to be a maid, was found in a dumpster behind a major shopping center in the Al-Safa district of Jeddah late last month. A man who had come to throw rubbish in the orange dumpster found the woman’s body slumped inside and immediately called police.
Bodies thrown in dumpsters tend to be those of overstayers whose loved ones refrain from coming forward to arrange a proper burial fearing legal action.
“Such people tend to leave the bodies in visible places close to foreign consulates to ensure they are noticed and then receive proper burials,” said a police officer.
Baby Boy’s Body in Mosque
The body of a one-day-old boy was found on shoe shelves at a mosque in the Al-Faisaliyah district of Jeddah.
The baby had been wrapped in material and was discovered by worshippers at the mosque.
The authorities have been informed and police are investigating who left the baby there, Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday.
