TAIF, 23 April 2007 — The Reconciliation Committee, under the supervision of Makkah Gov. Prince Abdul Majeed, recently saved a 28-year-old man on death row from being executed. Abdul Rahman Al-Juaid spent four years at Taif General Prison for murdering Bander Al-Guthami. Al-Juaid was to be executed in a few days time.
The Reconciliation Committee, together with 65 sheikhs from Makkah, Jeddah and Taif, managed to convince Al-Guthami’s family to forgive Al-Juaid. The Guthamis forgave the murderer saying they did not wish anything in return except the blessings of Allah. Sheikh Nasir ibn Misfir Al-Zahrani was the first to announce that Al-Juaid had been forgiven. “We are thankful to everyone who contributed in convincing the family,” he said.
Sheikh Ali ibn Bakheet Al-Zahrani commended the efforts of the Reconciliation Committee saying, “Al-Guthami’s family displayed the best sort of forgiveness yesterday. ... We encourage such steps and we aim to spread the concept of forgiveness among members of the public.”
