I would share a true story that happened not so long ago. A man and a nurse were married and it was not long before he was criticizing her for having to work late shifts in hospital. Though he was unhappy, he lived with the problem but noticed that she was always willing to help neighbors or even strangers even at the expense of their time together. One day, the nurse and her husband were out for a walk and suddenly an old man dropped on the ground. They heard someone screaming, “My father is dying. Please save him.” The nurse started to rush to the aid of the old man who seemed to be having a heart attack. Her husband, however, grabbed her hand and said, “Do you insist on ruining our relationship? Help will be here any minute to save the old man’s life. But if you go, consider our relationship over.”
She looked at him with sad eyes but all she could think of was the old man. She hurried and did all what she could to help the old man and save his life. With the help of his son, she assisted him into the ambulance. What happened next? I will tell you but first I have something to say.
The Saudi female nurse is someone who deserves to be praised. I am so proud of Saudi nurses because they are the pioneers. Our society still underestimates the profession of nursing. The work requires long hours and brave hearts that are capable of remaining firm and strong in the face of catastrophe. Nurses do much of the most important and difficult work in communicating with both doctors and patients.
I personally have never seen or noticed anything done by Saudi nurses to provoke anger or criticism from anyone. On the contrary, I have seen them doing their jobs professionally with skill and good spirits. They are a credit to themselves, their country and their religion.
Let me now finish the story I have digressed from. After five years, the man telephoned his ex-wife and told her, he regretted having left her. When she asked him what had happened, he began to weep and said, “I was taking a walk with my father and he had a heart attack and died. No one was there to save him.”
