TAIF, 24 April 2007 — The Supreme Commission for Tourism recently kicked off its flower festival in the highland retreat city of Taif, the daily Al-Madinah reported. The festival, the third year for this event, comes at the beginning of the flower-harvest season at Taif flower farms and included about 50 farms famous for their production of rose oil and flower waters. The festival will last for 10 days and will include a number of events, including art exhibitions, seminars, theater, and shows for horses and antique cars.
Police Discover Stash of Wine
TAIF, 24 April 2007 — Police here discovered 20 barrels of fermenting wine that had been buried in some undeveloped land, a local newspaper reported. The wine had been buried to be out of sight during the fermentation process. Authorities have made no arrests in the case; they estimated the street value of the wine at over SR800,000.
17 Pharmacies Fined in Tabuk
TABUK, 24 April 2007 — Authorities here fined 17 pharmacies a total of SR26,000 for selling expired medicines, local media reported. Officials in this northern Saudi city also fined a clinic SR10,000 for employing a doctor who did not have a license to practice medicine in the Kingdom.
