TAIF, 25 April 2007 - The Medical Committee in Taif is investigating the case of a one-and-a-half-year-old girl who, according to her father, became blind after being "carelessly" treated at a hospital in Taif, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.
Rima Al-Malki's father said that his daughter was taken to the King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital after suffering eye problems. A doctor there told him that Rima's retina had been infected and so she underwent treatment there.
However, Rima is now blind. Rima's father said the hospital was unable to arrange a plane to take Rima to Riyadh for three weeks, which was the main cause behind her losing her eyesight.
"I used to take her for treatment at the King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital. We then consulted a doctor in Riyadh, who said she needed to be brought to Riyadh within three days at the most," he said.
"But we had to wait for three weeks. When we arrived in Riyadh, the doctor said that the delay had caused my daughter to lose her eyesight," said the father.
