MAKKAH, 26 April 2007 — The problem of unregistered pilgrims who participate in the Haj and overcrowd the holy sites was discussed at a workshop, which was held in Makkah recently.
Forty specialists attended the event. The municipality, the Civil Defense and the King Fahd Institute for Haj Research also delivered papers at the workshop.
Habib Zain Al-Abideen, one of the organizers, said that participants at the workshop made over 20 recommendations.
“Some of these suggestions include assigning workers at the entrance of the Jamrat to take luggage from pilgrims in return for a nominal fee. Participants recommended that citizens and expatriates, who come for Haj without registering, are fined,” he said, adding that violations should be documented electronically.
“Expatriates will not be able to renew their Iqamas unless they pay the fines,” he said.
