CAIRO, 30 April 2007 — Egyptian director Dawood Abd El-Sayyid said a lack of talented actors was a real crisis facing the Egyptian film industry. The veteran director was speaking at a function in his honor here.
El-Sayyid said that another setback suffered by the country’s film production is the overwhelming presence of large production companies that marginalized small producers and monopolized the industry. The director said the presence of small independent producers is vital for quality productions because they do not hesitate to brave the odds in the market to make good films.
He said presently he had two stories ready for production but he could not find the right producer or actors to do them.
“Even if I find an actor for one role, what about the other roles? How can I direct them with a cast that cannot do justice to the characters in the story?” he said.
