MADINAH, 7 May 2007 — An expatriate widow and a Saudi divorcee fought it out in the streets to establish which one of them was the rightful owner of a house that belonged to a Saudi man who died last week. According to a local newspaper report, the man had divorced his Saudi wife and married an Indonesian maid several years ago. On hearing of her ex-husband’s death, the divorcee, who had no children by the dead man, returned to her former home where her former servant was now lady of the house and asked her to vacate the premises. She abused and struck the widow and drove her out onto the street and accused her of stealing her husband. The widow, on the other hand, argued that she and her baby son were the man’s rightful heirs. Finally neighbors had to call the police to restore peace and quiet.
