MADINAH, 8 May 2007 — Two brothers aged five and 10 have died after falling in an abandoned well in the King Fahd neighborhood of Madinah on Sunday.
According to eyewitnesses, the children were playing next to the well when the younger boy first fell inside.
The older boy then followed while trying to help his younger brother out. According to fire department officials, the well is 12 meters deep.
Fire officials told Arab News that the children fell inside the well at 9 p.m. A team of firefighters arrived at the location soon after but found the well opening too narrow to bring the boys out.
Machinery to widen the opening was obtained from Madinah Municipality and the bodies were recovered only by 7 a.m. yesterday.
