DUBAI, 9 May 2007 — UAE Health Minister Humaid Al-Qutami has inaugurated an art exhibition showcasing the work of renowned artist Wajih Nahle at the Godolphin Ballroom, Emirates Towers Hotel, on Monday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development Abdul Rahman ibn Muhammad Al-Owais attended the exhibition, which has been organized by the Dubai Ladies Club, Art and Talent Centre.
The Dubai Ladies Club, Art and Talent Centre — a member of the Dubai Women Establishment — organized the event as part of its mission to promote and support art in the region and contribute toward the development of the UAE society’s culture and heritage.
“I would like to thank Sheikha Manal bint Muhammad ibn Rashid Al-Maktoum, president of the Dubai Women Establishment, for giving me the opportunity to present my canvases and get acquainted with art lovers in Dubai. I am glad to be in Dubai, the most cosmopolitan city in the Middle East, the city that competes with other art capitals in the world,” said Wajih Nahle.
He added: “Dubai and the UAE has always supported art by providing an environment conducive to stimulate their creativity, the city has always act as a forum reflecting regional culture and fine art, while attracting artists and art lovers from all around the world.”
Muna Binkalli, events manager at the Dubai Ladies Club said: “This Exhibition is regarded as one of the major events organized by the Art and Talent Center since its inception. It also represents an ideal opportunity for UAE’s art lovers to appreciate Nahle’s creativity.”
The exhibition included more than 50 paintings; each of those reflects Nahle’s authentic Arab art through his use of Arabic script (calligraphy). There is also a permanent presence of woman, “the source of life,” in his canvases. The exhibition is open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, and will remain until today.
