JEDDAH, 9 May 2007 — Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu reiterated the organization’s unflinching support to the Kashmir cause at a meeting with Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan in Jeddah yesterday.
Expressing his solidarity with the Kashmiris, Ihsanoglu said OIC attached great importance to the Kashmir issue and wanted a peaceful resolution of the longstanding dispute. The Azad Kashmir prime minister appreciated the efforts of the OIC secretary-general and his special envoy Ambassador Ezzat Kamel Mufti in projecting the issue. He particularly spoke of Ambassador Mufti’s recent visit to Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
Sardar Attique briefed the OIC chief on the latest developments in the Indo-Pak peace talks and the active involvement of the Kashmiri leaders in the process.
The prime minister separately held a detailed meeting with Mufti and discussed a number of proposals for an effective OIC role in resolving the Kashmir dispute.
