JEDDAH, 10 May 2007 — With the ongoing construction boom and plans for new mega cities under way, the local market for security equipment will have tremendous potential for expansion, according to market leaders.

With safety and security becoming highly important in today’s life, experts predict that the annual growth will continue to increase on account of the rising economy, senior executives of A.M. Batterjee Group and LG Electronics told a press conference on the sidelines of a contract signing ceremony between them at the Jeddah Hilton on Tuesday night.

“LG Electronics has appointed Batterjee Security Products, part of the A.M. Batterjee Group, as the sole agent for its security products in Saudi Arabia,” LG General Manager Simon Lee said.

The deal includes devices launched by LG for the first time in the Kingdom such as security surveillance cameras, sensors, warning devices, recorders and other digital security accessories.

LG’s total surveillance solution has a complete line up of cameras, digital video recorders (DVRs), monitors, lenses and controllers for total security systems.

Lee and Abd Al-Majeed Batterjee, chairman of the A.M. Batterjee Group (AMB Group), signed the agreement. “We expect to expand and increase our business across the Kingdom in partnership with the AMB Group, which is chosen to be the sole agent for LG security products because of its vast experience in the market and great achievements over the years,” Lee said.

LG products are of high quality that will enable the Korean electronics giant to take a leading position in the Saudi market. We’ll strive for preserving what LG has achieved in this market and work toward its further market expansion. In addition, we plan to enhance the sales to comply with LG’s reputation and its magnificent products,” Abd Almajeed Batterjee said.

This year, LG is launching new DVRs that feature an “internal super multi DVD drive” that will enable customers to use any CD or DVD for backup. LG will have a full line up of network surveillance system as well as analogs.

K. W. Kim, president of LG in the Middle East and Africa, said the company considered the Middle East in general and the Kingdom as highly important because of their great potential for security equipment. “Due to the region’s booming economy and the ongoing construction of mega projects all over the Kingdom, we expect a high demand for safety and security products,” he said.

LG is eager to present the best and latest products in the Kingdom and elsewhere in the region. No doubt, the agreement signed with Batterjee Security Products will help LG to consolidate its position in the market and even increase its share together with providing an improved customer service.”

Majid Batterjee, customer service manager of Batterjee Security Products, explained how security equipment had become a prime need in modern life. “In the past security equipment was an accessory and not a necessity, which is not the case today,” he said. Today, the market is filled with companies providing products and services for every segment of the market.

“The question is whether the security equipment suppliers are offering the service and support as they should. Our goal at Batterjee Security Products is to offer to the local market the best security products available globally with the highest level of after-sales support. We now have a competitive edge in the market with LG’s security products that are of high quality and value, and have high reputation and brand image. We also have a telephone hot line to deal with customers,” he added.

Tom Hwang, LG’s Seoul-based regional sales manager of security systems, gave an overview of the security products that would be on offer. He said the market for surveillance equipment in the Middle East and Africa is growing rapidly.
