MAKKAH, 11 May 2007 — Makkah Mayor Dr. Osama Al-Bar inaugurated an e-archive department during a visit to the sub-municipality of Al-Mesfelah and spoke about development plans for the area.
Al-Bar said that Makkah Municipality has submitted documents to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs regarding four municipal schemes that are aimed at low-income Saudi citizens. “We have submitted the documents to the ministry and we are waiting for a reply,” he said, adding that the municipality would provide more than 20,000 plots of land to low-income citizens. The land would be distributed according to people’s financial status. The mayor also discussed the problem of people illegally occupying government land.
Al-Bar said that this is a widespread problem and solving it requires the cooperation of different committees. He met Sultan Al-Abud, head of the sub-municipality and other delegates there.
“This visit testifies that Al-Mesfelah is an important part of the Makkah region. The Al-Mesfelah municipality has many outlying districts. The efforts of the head of the Al-Mesfelah municipality as well as his colleagues are bearing fruits. However, the visit is not to develop and implement projects since this is the job of other committees. We hope that the regional and sub-municipalities will participate in preparing new development plans,” Al-Bar told Arab News. He expressed satisfaction after taking a general tour of the municipal building and examining the municipality’s future plans.
He also commented on issues relating to the lack of services in different areas of Al-Mesfelah. “We have allocated more than SR3 million for new projects, including maintaining streets and providing electricity,” he said.
“We hope that each and every citizen is able to take advantage of good services,” he said, adding that in order for the municipality to perform well it needs the cooperation of its own staff, local citizens, and the media.
