JEDDAH, 13 May 2007 — After receiving positive feedback on a premarital course for prospective grooms last month, the Mawaddah Social Center is running a similar course for women.
The three-day course, entitled “Happy Living,” will start today at the Maternity and Children’s Hospital. The course is open to all women, who are either newly wed or about to marry.
“The women’s course will follow the same technique. However, the issues discussed will be adjusted to meet the needs of women,” said Yaser Shalabi, chief family counselor at the center.
The course, like the premarital checkups, may soon be made compulsory for prospective brides and grooms. The aim of the course is to both raise awareness among people about the responsibilities of marriage and decrease rates of divorce.
A sociologist, a doctor and a religious lecturer are set to deliver lectures on a wide range of topics including health, social problems involving husbands and in-laws, and the intimate aspects of marriage. The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. For further information telephone: 02-6194444.
