RIYADH, 13 May 2007 — Prince Faisal bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Research and Marketing Group and president of the development committee of INSAN (Charity Committee for Orphans Care), inaugurated last night the first sports club for orphans in Riyadh.
The club has a soccer pitch, a swimming pool, an Internet room, recreation areas and lecture halls.
Prince Faisal said the initiative to set up a sports club would meet the recreation needs of orphans. He gave the credit for setting up the club to several philanthropists in the city.
He said the purpose of the club was to help orphans spend their leisure time in a way that would boost their motivation and have a positive effect on their health.
According to Prince Faisal, the inauguration would pave way for the establishment of more clubs for orphans in the capital. He said four to five similar clubs would be established by INSAN this year. He thanked the sons of Sheikh Saleh Bin-Humaid, who provided their house as a venue for the club.
Prince Faisal said INSAN was a charity that focuses on the needs of orphans. “INSAN’s support to orphans is not limited to just financial assistance, but also includes rehabilitating, educating and providing the appropriate environment for them,” he said.
The prince said the club, which has a capacity to accommodate 60 members, already registered 50 orphans within a short period.
He did not rule out establishing similar clubs for orphaned girls. “We do not differentiate between male and female orphans when it comes to caring,” he said. “There must be sports clubs for female orphans as well.”
