RIYADH, 14 May 2007 — A 13-year-old girl died after accidentally shooting herself while playing with her father’s gun, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday. Sami Al-Shuirik, spokesman for Riyadh police, said it is dangerous to leave firearms close to children and urged parents to keep weapons out of reach of their children.

Man Arrested With Fake Riyal Manual

AHSA, 14 May 2007 — An expatriate was arrested carrying a manual showing how to make counterfeit Saudi currency. The man was arrested in a random police stop-and-search operation in Ahsa. Police also arrested 12 overstayers and three expatriates, who were involved in an illegal international telephone call business, in the same vicinity, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday. Meanwhile, security forces arrested a gang of gamblers in an old house in the Al-Shahifa district in southern Jeddah. The five men, all Bangladeshis, were arrested after weeks of investigation.

Random Shootout in Makkah

MAKKAH, 14 May 2007 — Authorities in Makkah arrested two drug addicts who went on a shooting spree in the Al-Umra district of the city. Local residents took cover and cars crashed into each other as the two men began shooting randomly. Police said the men were under the influence of drugs and have criminal records, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.
