More Websites Now Posing Safety Risks

Cyveillance has identified that more than 11 million sites, or over 16.5 percent of domains associated with a live website, pose a threat to visitors. These risks include malware, privacy (e.g. suspect privacy shield, sites with phishing history), content (e.g. child pornography), behavior (e.g. sites that change browser settings) and transaction (e.g. counterfeit products, fake trust marks).

In an effort to arm security professionals with the most up-to-date and accurate information about these risks, Cyveillance is expanding its intelligence-led security services with the launch of CyberIntel Source (http://cyberintel.cyveillance.com), a free advisory website providing data, reports and analysis on the latest online security threats and trends.

In a recent report issued by Cyveillance, “Online Financial Fraud and Identity Theft 2007,” the company identified that the two leading online identity theft risks, phishing and malware, increased significantly in the first two months of 2007. The number of brands attacked grew by 50 percent, while malware attacks grew by an alarming 200 percent.

Keep Data Safe When Traveling

Steganos has launched a suite of software to help traveling computer users to protect their data from unauthorized access, loss or theft.

A February 2007 Steganos survey found that 74% of those who use a computer outside of work also travel with it, dramatically increasing the risk of loss or theft. Steganos Secure Traveler provides a complete suite to ensure that data is encrypted wherever it is stored and even as it is sent over the Internet.

One of the main features of the Secure Traveler suite is the Steganos Secure VPN, which enables users to create an encrypted tunnel to the Internet, eliminating the possibility for ISPs, intermediaries in the connection, hackers or wi-fi hotspot operators to eavesdrop on data traffic. All data passing through the tunnel is encrypted using a 128bit SSL connection, including e-mails and e-mail passwords, business data, instant messenger chats, auction bids, blogs and e-commerce transactions.

With the Steganos Secure VPN, all data is passed through one of the many Steganos servers, which means that the user can also surf anonymously.

The only IP address that website operators can see is that of the Steganos server. Users have a traffic allowance of 10GB per month, and the web interface enables users to see how much of their allowance they have consumed and how much is still available.

Secure Backup for SMEs

Breece Hill has introduced two new products for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that fill the need for high-capacity, low-maintenance data storage.

The popular, reliable Linear Tape Open (LTO) Ultrium tape format serves as the basis of Breece Hill’s new Q16 autoloader and Q40 library. The entry-level Q16 provides a single drive with two, eight cartridge magazines, to deliver up to 12.8TB capacity in a compact, 2U device for unattended, “hands-free” backup operations appropriate for small businesses. Midsized environments will benefit from the Q40’s space-efficient 4U rackmountable design with a 40-cartridge capacity of up to 32 terabytes. To provide for future growth, the innovative Q40 design allows users to start with a single tape drive and 24 slots and add a second drive and up to 16 slots when capacity and performance requirements increase along with data loads.

The Q16 and Q40 have been thoroughly tested and are certified to work with industry-leading servers, operating systems, and backup software.
