NAJRAN, 20 May 2007 — Police in this southern Saudi city announced the arrest of the suspected leader of a child-trafficking ring, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. Police urged citizens and residents to cooperate with the authorities in rooting out the exploitation of children, many of whom are smuggled into the Kingdom through the porous southern border with Yemen. Meanwhile, a suspected drug trafficker died in Jizan while being pursued by security officials, Al-Watan reported yesterday. Police say the suspect died instantly when his vehicle collided with a truck on a highway outside the city.
Riyadh Police Bust Fake Cops
RIYADH, 20 May 2007 — Authorities arrested 12 men under suspicions of operating a robbery gang that specialized in posing as police officers and shaking down immigrant laborers, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. Authorities said the men confessed to posing as police officers in order to break and enter the homes of laborers and in some cases violently assaulting their victims. The men were arrested after a lengthy investigation.
Hunt On for Suspect in Somali’s Murder
JEDDAH, 20 May 2007 — Police here said they are searching for a Somali national suspected of killing a compatriot on Friday, local media reported yesterday. Pedestrians in the city’s Al-Jamiah district found the body of the victim. Police said the man died from stab wounds.
