LUCKNOW, 20 May 2007 — The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Sukhdev Rajbhar was unanimously elected as the new speaker of the 15th Uttar Pradesh State Assembly on Friday evening.
The election for the speaker’s post was unanimous as all the leaders of the political parties including former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had signed and filed nomination papers favoringRajbhar.
Rajbhar is the 21st speaker of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly. Soon after being elected speaker, Rajbhar expressed thanks to the leaders of all political parties in the assembly as well as to all legislators. He assured all that the legislature would not be allowed to become one-sided, and that he would try to function independently and in an impartial way.
Rajbhar also said that he would make all efforts to maintain the decorum and high standards of the assembly.
Soon afer Rajbhar was declared elected as the new speaker, Chief Minister Mayawati, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agarwal, BJP leader in the assembly Om Prakash Singh, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Kokeb Hamid escorted Rajbhar to the speaker’s podium amid the thumping of desks by the legislators.
Aziz Is AMU Vice Chancellor
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has given his approval to the appointment of renowned agriculture scientist and Vice Chancellor of Cochin Science and Technology University professor Abdul Aziz as the new vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Professor Aziz has been associated with the Cochin Science and Technology University in Kerala for the past 27 years. The tenure of the new vice chancellor would be for a period of five years. A notification for the appointment of professor Aziz was received by the AMU administration from the president’s office yesterday.
Professor Aziz has vast experience in the field of Education and Scientific research and his work in his field had received world wide appreciation. Professor Aziz has written 77 research papers which have been published in leading international magazines and newspapers. The University of Kerala had conferred on him the prestigious Doctorate of Science (D. Sc) degree in the year 2004 for is vital contributions in the field of science and technology. The new vice chancellor had procured the maximum number of votes in the AMU executive council and court.
