TAIF, 22 May 2007 — Usually when a fight breaks out in school it involves students. Not this time. Two teachers at a school in this highland western Saudi city threw down their gauntlets and had a go at each other for some undisclosed reason, according to local media reports. The brawl attracted the attention of the students who gawked in amazement at their mentors rolling around in the dirt. One of the teachers suffered a broken arm while the other one was arrested, having been accused by witnesses as having thrown the first punch. Although the fight didn’t take place on school grounds, local education officials said without elaborating that they would discipline both teachers.
Gang Busted by Their Own Nerves
JEDDAH, 22 May 2007 — There are times when one wonders at the lengths that some crooks go to in order to commit crimes and realize that if they had simply applied such creative energy to a legal venture, they would reap profits rather than jail time. A group of crooks in Jeddah was caught stealing rolls of phone cable. In order to sell the copper, these men dressed up as phone company employees, complete with identification badges and uniforms, and drove around in a truck they had painted to look like an official Saudi Telecom Co. vehicle. They even had Road Work signs to place around the car so as to eliminate suspicion. Nevertheless, the men were caught by some passing police officers who noticed they were behaving like guilty children with their hands caught in cookie jars. When the officers stopped to question them, they broke down, attempted to flee and were promptly arrested.
