DAMMAM, 22 May 2007 — The executive arm of the Saudi-Canadian Business Council on Sunday discussed the final arrangements for the upcoming Saudi businessmen’s visit to Canada organized by the council, according to Ali Al-Yami, vice chairman of the council and the head of its media committee.

The delegation -— comprising 40 businessmen representing various commercial and industrial sectors, overnment agencies and public undertakings — aims at exploring and expanding the areas of mutual trade and investment by Canadian and Saudi businessmen.

The start of the visit is on June 10, Al-Yami told Arab News.

The meeting held at the office of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce here with Salah Al-Qahtani, chairman of the council, finalized the itinerary of the delegation including a conference in Calgary in which representatives of 600 Canadian companies are expected to participate. The meeting also appointed the spokesmen of the delegation during their tour in Canada.

The participants in the meeting discussed the names of the members of delegation representing government agencies such as the mining department, electricity department, geological survey and Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training and Saudi Aramco.

The meeting also reviewed its new logo and website.

The Saudi businessmen will discuss with their Canadian counterparts trade issues and the transfer of Canadian technology particularly in mining engineering and power generation. They will also identify investment opportunities in the industrial cities such as Jubail and Yanbu.

During the visit, Saudi delegation and Canadian agencies are expected to sign several contracts for the Canadian involvement in the Kingdom’s technical and vocational training and industrialization. The businessmen are upbeat about the outcome of the visit as both Saudi Arabia and Canada enjoy stable economies which are open for a healthy competition, Al-Yami said. The two countries also offer plenty of investment opportunities.
