JEDDAH, 25 May 2007 — Health authorities have fined 62 out of the 661 pharmacies in Jeddah hundreds of thousands of riyals for violating health affairs regulations, which include selling out-of-date and unregistered products, and employing unqualified staff.
Fines totaling SR692,500 were handed out during inspections that were held by the Medical License Administration at Jeddah’s Health Affairs from Jan. 20 to May 17. The inspections took place under the supervision of Dr. Yasser Al-Ghamdi, director of Health Affairs in Makkah Region.
Some of the pharmacies were found to be badly air-conditioned, with pharmacists not wearing assigned uniforms that include a white laboratory coat.
The administration carries out regular inspections on pharmacies.
