JEDDAH, 28 May 2007 — Helping the poor and investing in their capacity building efforts are among the objectives of a new charity organization called Kindah Charity, which has been established in Jeddah.
The new project is being embarked upon to serve the interests of the poor, especially youth, in capacity building programs, said Dr. Abdullah Bin Mahfouz, vice chairman at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The new organization will operate as per the regulations specified for charities by the Ministry of Social Affairs and attempt to fulfill the objectives for which it has been created, Dr. Bin Mahfouz, who heads the executive committee of Kindah, told the launch ceremony at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry over the weekend. “We hope to raise the living standard of poor families and contribute to the Kingdom’s human resource development by undertaking capacity building programs for the weaker sections of society,” he said.
“The organization has been named Kindah to perpetuate the role of one of the Arab tribes,” he said, adding that it also aimed to promote the concept of voluntary work through various social programs.
Saleh ibn Muhammmad Al-Kindi Bin Mahfouz, deputy head of the organization, said its charity programs would involve strengthening social communication of the poor and undertaking health care programs for them.
“We will invest in our poor youth by providing them with training and enhancing their skills in order to make them eligible in the job market,” he said.
The launch was attended among others by businessman Marie Mubarak Bin Mahfouz and Badr Al-Sehaqi, who represented the Ministry of Social Affairs.
