CAIRO, 31 May 2007 — Egyptian singer Shireen Abdul Wahab has denied recent rumors in the Arabic press that she has received numerous death threats telling her to stop singing. Though she dismissed the reports as baseless, she said she strongly suspected that someone was conspiring against her and attempting to discredit her.
Earlier this year Shireen admitted that she was under severe stress and facing several challenges as her enemies were conspiring against her. She suspects that Nasr Mahrous, her former composer and colleague, who turned against her recently, was planning to release several of her unreleased songs, a move that would land her in direct conflict with her current record company, Rotana.
