JEDDAH, 31 May 2007 — A complaint over a bee farm in a residential area in Taif led to battery charges against four local police officers, police said yesterday.
“The sponsor of a Yemeni national filed a complaint against four officers from Al-Hawia police station,” police spokesman Turki Al-Shehri told Arab News.
He said the battery charges against the police came after neighbors complained about the nuisance of bees from the commercial honey operation.
The Yemeni beekeeper claims that police roughed him up and in the process damaged his eardrum, Al-Shehri said.
The policemen said the Yemeni resisted arrest. An investigation is under way.
The sponsor filed the complaint based on a medical report which he obtained after getting his worker out of detention. The medical report granted the worker six days leave from his job and is being used as evidence of physical abuse against the arresting officers.
