TAIF, 3 June 2007 — A Saudi man was shocked when an unexpected wannabe-Misyar groom, a local Turkish barber, paid him a visit at his house asking for his maid’s hand in marriage, the Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday. The barber said he would be fine with the maid working at the Saudi man’s house and that he would only come and visit her on weekends. He then narrated how he flirted with the maid every day when she walked past his shop. The Saudi man told the man to immediately leave his house and then made arrangements to deport the maid.
Blind Saudi Man Forced to Pay Traffic Fine
BAKAA, 3 June 2007 — A blind Saudi man, who had gone to a recruitment office to arrange a visa for a maid, was left speechless after he learned that he had an outstanding traffic fine, the Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday. Officials put his application on hold and told him to come back when he had paid the outstanding fine.
From Najran to Abha and Then Divorce Court
NAJRAN, 3 June 2007 — A Saudi woman was divorced by her husband after she voiced concerns that she didn’t want to spend her weekends with her in-laws who lived in a different city. Every weekend the couple made the three hour drive from Najran to Abha, where the husband’s family lived. On a recent weekend, the Saudi woman said she did not want to go to Abha and so her husband dropped her off at her parent’s home. There the woman’s father asked his son-in-law to stop taking the woman to Abha, a request he obliged by declaring he divorced her.
