YANBU, 7 June 2007 — A fire in an industrial training building in Yanbu yesterday left two women unconscious and scores of others with breathing difficulties. According to the Civil Defense, the fire started from an air-conditioner unit in the men’s section of the building.

Fire brigades managed to evacuate 50 women, who were in the building at the time. The women suffered breathing difficulties and exhaustion after inhaling fumes.

The fire was brought under control after the power supply to the building was cut off. The unconscious women recovered at a nearby medical center. No one was injured in the men’s wing of the building, as there were only a few people present at the time.

Col. Zuhair Sabih, director of the Civil Defense in Yanbu, told Arab News that the accident was caused by an electrical short circuit.
