RIYADH, 8 June 2007 — The Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) will host a four-day training program for women beginning June 16, which is aimed at promoting professional female security guards for women-only establishments in the Kingdom.
Nouf Aljarallah, RCCI spokeswoman, told Arab News that women participating in the program would be trained in self-defense, how to secure establishment properly, and techniques for maintaining an establishment’s high security profile that helps pre-emtively deter criminal activity.
“They will also be trained in first aid and how to operate emergency equipment,” said Aljarallah. “Women security guards are in high demand for women establishments.”
Aljarallah said she believed that Saudi society is becoming more accepting of the idea of female security guards. Some private security companies, she said, have resorted to sending women abroad for training.
“We are constantly receiving applications from women who want to work as security guards and need training,” she said.
According to the RCCI spokeswoman, female security guards are increasingly being used in the women’s departments of banks, hospitals and factories.
