CAIRO, 10 June 2007 — Egyptian film star Yusra is back on television after a two-year hiatus, acting in the role of a doctor at a rehabilitation center for sexually abused women in Cairo. The film “Qadiat Rai Am,” directed by Muhammad Aziziah and produced by Al-Adl Group, addresses the sensitive issue of raped women in the Arab world in general and in Cairo in particular.
Yusra is appearing in the role of Dr. Ablah in the film based on Muhsin Al-Jalad’s story “Dr. Ablah and the City of Wolves,” according to Al-Raya newspaper.
The cast includes Khaled Zaki, Ahmad Khalil, Sami Al-Adl and Raja Al-Jaddawi.
Yusra, who is a United Nations’ goodwill ambassador, has also been given the title of the “Ambassador for the Environment” in recognition of her role in the first film on environment by the Nile International Festival committee.
Yusra was also honored at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York along with other actors for their award-winning role in the “Emarat Yakubian”, “The Yacoubian Building”, the film based on the highly acclaimed novel of the same name by Egyptian novelist Alaa Al-Aswany.
