JEDDAH, 12 June 2007 — Autopsy results have confirmed that Ahmed ibn Mussalam Al-Bulawi died last week while he was in religious police custody as a result of a severe fall in blood pressure and respiratory system, the Tabuk Governorate said yesterday. Sulaiman Al-Anzi, head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Tabuk, also said that Bulawi died of a stress-related heart attack.
The governorate said authorities cleared Al-Anzi and a foreign worker at the center of having any role in 50-year-old Al-Bulawi’s death.
“The remaining detainees who are under investigation will be transferred to the court after the completion of the probe to look into matters related to private rights as well as public rights,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted the governorate as saying.
It said the Board of Control and Supervision would take up administrative errors that were committed by commission officials. Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd ibn Sultan had instructed to arrest all those who were present at the center for investigation.
Al-Bulawi died on June 1 after members of the moral police arrested him when they saw him picking up a woman at a local family entertainment park.
