RIYADH, 15 June 2007 — Hundreds of thousands of customers are likely to flock to the mango festival at the Geant Hypermarkets, where mango lovers could chose from a number of varieties of the delicious lip-smacking mangoes. The three-day festival, the first of its kind organized by a hypermarket chain across the Kingdom, will include display of mangoes from different countries besides in-store promotions and sale on unbelievable prices.
Spelling out the features of the festival, Tim Sutton, operations manager of Geant Saudi Ltd. said: “We at Geant recognize our customers and thank them for their support. The festival, currently under way, is to ensure that our customers do get to see and taste the rich varieties of mangoes. It is our endeavor to continuously add value to our consumers shopping experience and this festival is a step in that direction.” Sutton said that several varieties of mangoes mainly from Pakistan, India, Yemen and Saudi Arabia are on display for sale at Geant stores. Every customer will be interested to taste, especially Indian mangoes as India is the largest producer of mangoes in the world contributing more than 50 percent share of the world production.
Pakistani mangoes, on the other hand, also have huge demand in the international market due to their rich taste and flavor. Pakistan, which exports mangoes to Saudi Arabia, is producing about 72 varieties of mangoes, out of them six varieties namely Anwar Ratol, Sindhri, Chaunsa, Sunhera (Golden), Began Phali and Fajri are in great demand. “Hence, Geant, the premier hypermarkets in Saudi Arabia, undertook the right initiative to organize the current mango festival across the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Buraidah in an attempt to showcase the huge varieties of the king of fruits — mangoes,” Sutton said.
He said Geant has also enhanced the store look with its new decor and ambience on the occasion of the festival. The festival also “encourages customers to participate in the event when they visit the store so that there is a sense of belonging and long-term bonding between the store and its customers,” he said, while referring to the growing demand of mangoes. In fact, mango is one of the best-loved fruits worldwide.
