JEDDAH, 15 June 2007 — Three Saudi citizens were arrested here on charges of impersonating government employees to manipulate the owner of a car dealership in Jeddah.

They allegedly forged official documents with the help of an Egyptian expatriate to show that one suspect was a marine officer, the second a customs official, and the third a petrochemicals engineer.

The company’s owner grew suspicious and called the companies they claimed to represent. When he discovered the ruse he alerted authorities.

Police said they linked the men to the crime because one of them used his real name on the forged documents. Authorities say the suspect confessed and ratted out his accomplices.

The case has been transferred to the criminal investigation department of the Jeddah police.
