RIYADH, 15 June 2007 — A communication and information company has called for the review of existing laws and regulations in the industry in order to establish the “highest level for electronic government.”
Al-Mutahadeth Communication and Information Company said that “in this race for great intellectual development,’ a plan should involve the restructuring and simplification of procedures in both government and private organizations.”
In a recent cooperation agreement between Al-Mutahadeth Communication and Ducont International — which specializes in mobiles multiprogramming and SMS — the former becomes the lone distributor in the Kingdom of the latter’s special programs for SMS, mobile programs, bank directory programs, banking SMS, banking PDE and other related services, among others.
Al-Mutahadeth’s chairman of the board of directors Saleh Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Abdulatif said communication and telecommunication technology is aimed at providing, developing and expanding communication and SMS services in the Kingdom to meet the economic and the social needs.
To encourage investments in those fields, he said “according to applied regulation, there must be a vision and a realistic strategy established on the highest level for the electronic government.”
He added that a plan has to be drafted by a well-balanced team of specialists. “Through this plan, priorities must be set, essential financial resources must be provided and administration approval must be obtained to find an infrastructure base for communication and information,’ he noted.
Al-Abdulatif further said that it should provide the basic level of services in all areas at an affordable rate to everyone.
Under the plan, technology and information’s capabilities can be utilized to increase the government’s ability to “provide information and services in an easy and facilitated manner.” It will also minimize frequent visits to government establishments and would foster “equality in obtaining information.”
