SRINAGAR, 16 June 2007 — Two Indian troopers were killed and seven others including four civilians and three army soldiers were injured in a militant attack on a passing army convoy at Sopore, 54 km from here in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district yesterday morning.
Police here said heavily armed militants attacked an escorted army convoy at village Baggu, on the outskirts of the apple rich Sopore town.
“Militants sprayed bullets at the passing army convoy, resulting in on the spot death of an army trooper and injuries to eight others including three army soldiers, one paramilitary central reserve police force trooper and four civilians,” a senior police officer said.
“The critically wounded paramilitary CRPF trooper later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital while the other wounded persons are undergoing treatment,” he added.
The condition of one civilian is stated to be serious.
