Divorces leave psychological scars on couples and their children. Divorces create dysfunctional families and turn the life of those affected into a living nightmare. It all starts with the divorce papers and court orders, and then there are the complaints about the children and the negligence of either parent to contribute to their well-being and finances.

Once the divorce comes through, there are other disputes that require lots of attention and which calls for a committee to investigate these issues.

One day I went to the court to authorize one of my brothers to follow up on some of my private matters. I bumped into a woman crying her eyes out. Everyone sympathized with the woman and we tried to figure out what was up with her in order to comfort her.

She said that her divorce has been suspended and that she, on her own, is looking after her five children without the support of their father, who has abandoned the family and has never thought of even asking how they are coping.

He only visited when the children ran into a bit of trouble in school and which needed his presence. He showed up only to threaten and curse them, and then leave.

Most of the time, the children go to school without money to eat. Electricity is always suspended in the house even during the deadly summer heat. The woman had to finally go to a charitable institute that helped her solve some of her problems. As for the Social Security Department, they asked for her divorce papers or a paper from the court to prove that there is no one to support her financially. She could not, of course, obtain such a paper and so ended up running from pillar to post.

I wonder what this woman’s children are going to think of their father when they grow up? Will we force them to respect him? Do we label them as disobedient?

Another woman, whom I also met in court, has been visiting the court daily, begging to see her daughter even if inside a court room. Have fathers become so cold-hearted that they do not even think of their children’s reaction when they grow older? How could they deprive their children of their mothers’ irreplaceable love and tender care?

Divorces conducted in a professional manner are much better than parents endlessly fighting each other.

What would happen if the couple put aside their personal differences and negotiate respectably to raise their children and solve their problems? Culture and social awareness are very important in helping couples overcome their problems after divorce.

People who are balanced would not agree to live in humiliation and would strive to provide their children with the best.

Because of cruelty and ignorance, some children, whose parents are divorced, even wish to become orphans in order to receive some sort of care and attention. How sad.
