MAKKAH, 16 June 2007 — Bandar Al-Hajjar, chairman of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), denied there was any disagreement with the Ministry of Social Affairs following his surprise visit to an orphanage in Makkah.

“The ministry has certain projects that it needs to complete within their budget, while we have our own aims and expectations,” Al-Hajjar told Arab News yesterday referring to his recent hour-long visit to an orphanage run by the Orphan Care Society. The NSHR official added that during his visit he discussed problems faced by the orphanage with officials there.

He also added that the visit was aimed at observing the activities of the organization up close instead of relying on reports sent by the organization or through the media.
