MAKKAH, 18 June 2007 — A Pakistani farm worker was bludgeoned to death by a Bangladeshi overstayer armed with a hammer on Saturday in the Al-Rayan area north of Makkah. Police are currently looking for the assailant. The motive behind the murder is still unknown. According to police the murdered man was hit from behind while watering the farmland.

MAKKAH, 18 June 2007 — A Saudi man fired two gunshots into the air to disperse a group of people that were attacking him and a friend in the Rub Dakher District of Makkah. According to police, the gunman and his friend drove into the area and were set upon by the group for some unknown reason. Windows of the car were smashed and the man’s friend was dragged from the car and beaten up. At this stage the gunman fired two shots into the air to disperse the crowd. Police soon arrived at the location, arresting the two men and the group.
1,388 Men Arrested in Police Raids
MAKKAH, 18 June 2007 — Over 827 overstayers and 385 wanted criminals have been arrested in police raids conducted over the past few weeks, said Makkah Police Spokesman Maj. Abdul Mushin Al-Maiman. He added that police also managed to seize 15 stolen cars and 83 stolen motorbikes, and that raids will continue throughout the summer vacation.
