JEDDAH, 19 June 2007 — The Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) is holding a charity auction of 70 unique high-demand cell phone numbers tomorrow at the Makarim Hall in Riyadh’s Marriot Hotel.

The Disabled Children Association (DCA) will use proceeds from the auction in constructing residential properties. Income from the properties will be used to pay for over 75 percent of the DCA’s expenses. The properties are located in the same cities as the DCA’s different branches.

“This cooperation expresses the social responsibility that the STC is always keen to undertake. The company has previously, on several occasions, supported the association,” said Suleiman Al-Mansour, director of the public relations department at the DCA.

These events do not cost the STC, but open the door for people to indirectly financially help the association. The numbers being offered are easy to remember and are sold for high prices.

The 70 numbers that are being auctioned are divided into three categories according to their monetary value. The most popular numbers include 0533333333, 0550055000, 0550055555 and 0550777777. The auction is being held in three sessions: 9.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. to 5.45 p.m.

Participants have to deposit an amount of insurance money with the STC, which will be refunded within five days if they fail to secure a win. The auction is only open to men. Women can bid through their male representatives.

This is the first auction being held by the STC for the DCA, which has previously held charity auctions on antiques. Further information about tomorrow’s event can be found on the STC’s official website: www.stc.com.sa.
