MAKKAH, 20 June 2007 — Makkah police announced that more than 500 illegal residents in different parts of Makkah were rounded up in one day. The total number of people arrested in Makkah between Saturday and Monday was 1,517. Twenty-five workers from a five-star hotel in the holy city were detained in one sweep. The authorities also said they broke up an illegal international-call operation and seized equipment and SR3,000 in cash.
Police Seize 3m Rotten Food Items
JEDDAH, 20 June 2007 — Police announced recently that they seized three million rotten food items and a half million expired cosmetic products that were destined for the marketplace in Jeddah. The seized food was about 105 tons, were about to be sold in small commercial stores in the poor districts like Petromin district or Al-Karantina.
