MAKKAH, 25 June 2007 — A Libyan pilgrim died after falling 300 meters from the top of Mount Noor in Makkah yesterday. According to his friends, the man, in his 50s, had just performed Umrah and had expressed a desire to visit the Cave of Hera located at the top of Mount Noor. Cave Hera is the place where Angel Gabriel appeared to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for the first time. The climb to the top of the mountain is strenuous and difficult one, yet thousands of pilgrims make the arduous journey each year. Maj. Sahl Al-Otaibi of Makkah police told Arab News that the death was an accident.
Dead Man Found in Abandoned Building
MAKKAH, 25 June 2007 — The body of a dead man was found in suspicious circumstances in an abandoned building yesterday in the Barahat Al-Rashidi District of Makkah. According to police reports, the man is said to be a Saudi national and aged in his late sixties. Medical experts told Arab News that further details about the cause of death would be released as soon as investigations are complete.
