HYDERABAD, India, 30 June 2007 — Police have seized huge quantities of explosives at two places on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Five people, including a woman, were arrested.
Police arrested 36-year-old Mareddy Ranga Reddy of Nakrekal in neighboring Nalgonda district on a tip on Thursday. Based on his information, police raided his house in FCI colony in the Vanasthalipuram area and seized 3,000 detonators and 800 gelatin sticks. Ranga Reddy’s associates Y. Ananth Reddy and Lakshmamma were arrested.
Police also raided a house at Manikonda near Raidurg and seized 35,700 detonators, 1,150 gelatin sticks and 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrate. Two more of his associates — Jalandhar Reddy and Veeraiah — were arrested.
