RIYADH, 5 July 2007 — The Pakistan Writers Club (PWC) held a program “Ek Shakhsiat — Ek Shaam” to honor noted Pakistani doctor, Riaz Jawed Khawaja. The PWC aims to hold similar programs to honor outstanding personalities among the members of the Pakistani community.
Club’s President Faiz Al-Najdi spoke about the purpose of the program and highlighted the achievements of Dr. Khawaja.
Shamshad Siddiqui, a businessman and one of Dr. Khawaja’s friends, said Dr. Khawaja was involved in a number of charity programs in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan through an organization called Pakistan Cultural Group of which he was the chairman. Dr. Khawaja, Siddiqui said, was also one of the founders of Pakistani Doctor’s Group and he has been its general secretary for over 20 years.
Siddiqui’s speech was followed by a question-answer session.
Abdur Rauf Moghul, Ashiq Hussain (senior vice president — operation) and Syed Khawaja Nehaluddin — secretary, information & planning took part in the discourse.
Dr. Khawaja arrived in Saudi Arabia in 1971 as a young doctor. He worked with the royal medical team of late King Khaled. He was associated with Dr. Fazlur Rehman, another Pakistani luminary and a personal physician of King Khaled.
Zafrullah Khan, another speaker, described Dr. Khawaja as a person of great sense of humor.
Bashir Ahmad Chaudhry, executive director, CN Rice Mills, Asghar Qureshi, chairman Qureshi Group of Companies and Syed Abu Zafar, a writer, also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Khawaja thanked the PWC for arranging the program to honor him. A memento was later presented to him by the PWC.
