RIYADH, 9 July 2007 — Filipino high school junior and senior students in Riyadh have been invited to compete in the “Interschool IT Olympics 2007” being organized by the Computer Society of Filipinos (Comsofil) in Riyadh.
Comsofil said the competition is open to computer clubs from at least 12 high schools teaching the Philippine educational curriculum.
The categories include an on-the-spot PC assembly, networking, web design, office productivity, programming, graphics illustration games and an information technology IQ challenge or “battle of the brains.”
“This unique educational competition will give the students insight on the actual application of the subject they have learned in class. It will also measure the ability and competence of the students in the information and communication technology field,” said Jun Muga, Comsofil president.
Prior to the contest, Comsofil will conduct a crash-course for all participants about the games that have not been included in the school curriculum. All levels of competitions will be timed and subjected to rules and regulations.
“The ‘digital economy’ is growing and we, as part of the Digital Age, should also move competently into the information highway, fast-tracking to the ‘digital world,’” Muga said.
Those who wish to register, join and compete have to submit a filled-out “confirmation form” attached with the invitation letter.

Muga said the schedule of the competition will be announced as soon as Comsofil gathers the required number of competitors.
So far, Al-Taj and Second Philippine International School (SPIS) have signified their intention to compete.
Comsofil also announced that its 4th IT Olympics, an annual contest for the society’s current students, will be held on Sept. 14.
