RIYADH, 12 July 2007 — Riyadh authorities announced the arrest of three Saudis between the ages of 17 and 20 suspected of being part of a gang that used to break into cars and steal items from inside.

Riyadh Police said the arrest of the suspects was the result of an extensive field operations to locate carjackers and car thieves after complaints by resident of several such incidents.

“One of the three young men arrested confessed that he had broken into five cars and stole contents from inside them with the help of two buddies,” a statement from the Riyadh Police Department said. The police said that their confessions had been recorded and the officers are currently investigating whether the suspects had anything to do with other car breaking incidents reported in the capital.

“Their cases will be transferred to a court after the completion of the investigation where they will be tried according to the charges laid against them,” the statement said.
